Tonight is a good night to observe some shooting stars!

Normally cities aren't good places to observe meteors, but the Perseids shower should be bright enough to see from light-polluted urban areas starting from around 10pm and the rate increases until dawn to about once or twice a minute.
A perfect opportunity to stare up at the sky in the arms of your loved one! Or a chance for you lucky guys to make a move



Also it is a new moon, so that means the sky will be dark.

And as bonus Mars will be visible as a bright red dot! See if you too, can find Waldo.

Being in the world of IT, you wouldn't think it applies but hey, in a male dominated field you can bet femininity hath its privileges.

Take one large video conference screen system. Mix in Oliver. Throw in a little remote facility. Try to sell said facility this idea and it becomes a political nightmare. You would assume everyone would be all for it. It is economical, logical and best of all Green! Save on the travel time, instant access, just as good as if they were sitting in the room. You can hear and see them clearly and you also get picture in picture. Its friendly for the environment. By using less gas thereby creating less emissions through transportation process it is good fun for all ages.

So what is the hold up? Politics and BS.

All Ollie had to do at this meeting was to be her 'bodyguard', just stand there and look imposing. Let Deb do all the talking, while all the other men at the meeting just agreed to everything. I'm surprised they didn't bake her a cake while they were at it.

Since I wasn't actually there, you might be thinking how would I know? Well one dead give away is the departure. At this particular facility it is very difficult to get out. Easy to get in. Why you ask? Well this is a toll plaza, where cars are constantly crossing against you. Picture exiting the place. You are trying to go perpendicular to both ways of traffic. To your left is three or more lanes of traffic moving to the right. Above that is three more lanes going to the left pictured like so:

So of course the big wigs made a special call out to the bridge officers (yes they can ticket you like real cops) and they give Ollie and Deb an escort out of the facility. They stopped all lanes of traffic and metaphorically said, "There ya go little lady, have a nice day!". As they rode off into he sunset.

[lost the train of thought there but here we go again.]

You see there is Deb who works with us in IT, and anytime she needs something, all she has to do is even hint that she needs something and all these people jump through hoops to make sure she gets it. She once was at a facility and need to cross our bridge. But because there is usually a lot of traffic at the toll booths, changing lanes could be dangerous and a time consuming process. The rule is once you're in the lane you don't get out and change, but for her, they had a car to escort her and people to rearrange the cones on the lanes so that she could cross with ease.
I drove through the same facility and had to fight my way in the traffic and that's just part of the daily routine.

Getting haircut today, and the barber and I see on the wall mounted tv this water pipe exploding in NY by 41th and Lex.

It broke through the city street from below to spew plumes of scalding steam and gushing hot water all over the streets. The steam rose high enough to completely cloud out the windows of the tall buildings nearby. Buses taxis and debris flying through the air to slam back down onto the ground.

I'm so glad I didn't stay late tonight after the downpour this morning just to get stuck underground in the subway which runs underneath all this chaos because that would have been a perfect ending. [pic stolen from ny1]

This was all fine until the reporter kept asking every possible dumbest question under the sun and in the book to some lady who was in a nearby building when this occured. Of course he had to tie it in with 9/11. Obviously asking her loaded questions with predictable answers doesn't shed anymore light on the situation but just prolongs the sillyness of news. But I  learned a lot from her about the pipe, for example she didn't know where the stairs were as she took them for the first time today by following the crowd evacuating, and she had called her husband on the phone to tell him she was alright *how sweet* and the lights flickered briefly as the explosion sounded like thunderstorm rumbling. I'm just glad he didn't have time to ask her what she was going to have for dinner when she got back home after this incident
