  • Pete's wedding tomorrow and I get to blow up the balloons.

He knew her for less than 6 months and they both decided to get married. Amazing. On top of which they had met online through a dating service to begin with.
So that means he must have been planning this even earlier.

  • Everyone and their parrot has as website. This is such a great country we live in.

    My coworker's bird's website:

  • Great craig's list post. I had originally saw the post but never knew that someone had gave such a great reply:

    THIS APPEARED ON CRAIG'S
    LIST

     What am I doing wrong?

     Okay, I'm tired of beating
around the bush. I'm a beautiful
     (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old
    girl. I'm articulate
     and classy.
I'm not from New York. I'm
looking to get married to a guy
     who makes at
     least half a
million a year. I know how that sounds, but
     keep in mind
     that
a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I
     don't
    think
     I'm overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make
500K or more on this board? Any
     wives? Could
     you send me some
tips? I dated a business man who makes
     average around
     200 -
    250. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock.
     250,000 won't
    get
me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class
    who
     was married
to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca,
    and she's not
     as pretty as
I am, nor is she a great genius.
So what is she doing right?
     How do I
     get to her
    level?

     Here are my questions specifically:

     - Where do
you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics-

     bars,
     restaurants, gyms

     -What are you looking
for in a mate? Be honest guys, you
     won't hurt
    my
     feelings

-Is there an age range I should be targeting
    (I'm 25)?

     - Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on
    the
     upper east
side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane'
    boring types
     who have
nothing to offer married to incredibly
    wealthy guys. I've
     seen drop dead
     gorgeous girls in singles
bars in the east village. What's
     the
    story
     there?

     - Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows
    - lawyer,
     investment
banker, doctor. How much do those guys
    really make? And
     where do they
hang out? Where do the hedge
    fund guys hang out?

     - How you decide marriage vs. just a
    girlfriend? I am
     looking for
     MARRIAGE ONLY

     Please
hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in
     an
    honest
way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm

     being up front
about it. I wouldn't be searching for these
    kind of guys if
     I wasn't
able to match them - in looks,
    culture, sophistication, and
     keeping a
     nice home and
    hearth.

     THE ANSWER
     Dear
    Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have
    thought
     meaningfully
about your dilemma. I offer the following
    analysis of your
     predicament.
     Firstly, I'm not wasting your
time, I qualify as a guy who
     fits your
     bill; that is I make
more than $500K per year. That said
     here's how I
     see
    it.

Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain

     and simple a
crappy business deal. Here's why. Cutting
    through all the
     B.S., what you
suggest is a simple trade: you
bring your looks to the party
     and I bring
     my money. Fine,
simple. But here's the rub, your looks will
     fade and my
     money
will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is
     very
    likely
that my income increases but it is an absolute
    certainty
     that you won't
     be getting any more
    beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I
    am
     an earning
asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset,
    your
     depreciation
accelerates! Let me explain, you're 25 now
    and will likely
     stay pretty
hot for the next 5 years, but
less so each year. Then the
     fade begins in
     earnest. By 35
    stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a
    trading
     position, not a buy
     and hold...hence the
    rub...marriage. It doesn't make good
     business sense
     to "buy
you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather
     lease. In
    case
you think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If
    my
     money were
to go away, so would you, so when your beauty
    fades I need
     an out. It's
as simple as that. So a deal that
    makes sense is dating, not
     marriage.

     Separately, I was
taught early in my career about efficient
     markets. So,
     I
wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly

     beautiful"
as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I
    find it
     hard to
believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say
    you are that
     the $500K
hasn't found you, if not only for a
    tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your
    own
     money and then
we wouldn't need to have this difficult
    conversation.

With all that said, I must say you're going about it
    the
     right way.
     Classic "pump and dump."
     I hope this
is helpful, and if you want to enter into some
     sort of
     lease,
    let me know.

  • gone are the days of preparing a lesson with handouts, diagrams and a whole history lesson along with other pertinent background information.

nowadays I get straight to the point. give them only what they need to know and the bare minimal background info. it cuts my lessons down by a lot and i think those neanderthals appreciate it more.

  • Cat fight

A few days ago as I got onto the 7 train at Flushing station, the unexpected happened.
You see, during the rush hour commute in the morning, it is first push, first seated.

If you can imagine at the start of a horse race, where the gates open and they all rush out? It is the same thing, just with people rushing into the train as soon as the doors open. Waves upon waves of people pushing inwards as the few poor souls still trapped inside attempt to make their way out with minimal success.

As I look over to my right these two women (who appeared to be in their 30's but we'll refer to them as girls) were at the peak of their argument and just coming to blows. Literally. It started off as some pushing, then a few punches and clawing and then it escalated into full body blows. One of them even took her silver saks fifth avenue bag and took a full swing at the other girl. When that wasn't enough she grabbed onto the girl with both hands then raised her right foot forming a 90?/font> angle and kicked out right into the stomach of her opponent.

It had crossed my mind briefly that it would have been a simple matter to separate the two. Judging by their wild swings there was no aiming involved, no forethought as to which body part is the most vulnerable to attack, simply uncontrolled lashing at every opportunity.

I could just imagine as soon as I grab one of them that one will take out her aggressions on me and start attacking me while the one I didn't grab will continue to flail at the subdued one. All the while poor me would be on the defensive taking all the hits from both sides.
So instead as psychology dictates, in large crowds we tend to shirk responsibility onto others assuming that someone else will take action. Nobody did.
There is always something about these kinds of fights that guys like to watch. Perhaps we hope that in the process some article of clothing will tear away in a revealing manner.
    No such luck this time.

They were both about a meter away from me. People on both sides of the
aisle sitting down were half heartedly raising limp arms to try to
deter the two from further humiliating themselves and yet at the same time entertaining us. One of them dropped the sunglasses onto the floor and
    it broke.

Eventually they moved apart and then one left the train, only to reenter a few seconds later yelling obscenities getting the other girl all riled up again. That same girl then exited the train for good this time onto the adjacent car.
Leaving the other one in the train to lick her wounds. She couldn't stop preening and looking into the reflection of the glass the whole train ride. I'm sure some of those will be leave a bruise the next day.

What a way to start off a day.

  • Got new glasses. Another 430 down the drain, all because I misplaced my old pair. I had better not ever find them or else I'll be pretty unhappy.

Gonna order a backup pair online as well. Memory titanium, thanks to Dennypoo's referral. (ZenniOptical.com)
I briefly examined his glasses at the theatre, and the workmanship wasn't too shabby, compared to his friend's who had a similar pair for which he paid retail price. On top of all that it had all the bells and whistles of the fancier model.

Full review after I receive the frameless version, but I can see that it looks promising.

  • too see what others see

damn bob made me drive his lazy ass around today at work because he wanted to 'feel what the user feels'.

we went to the Q, and had some interesting conversation on the way there. we don't get such a chance that often because it is like worlds colliding. they can't afford to let us both go out at the same time unless it is a special assignment, since they would be shorthanded. but now that we're in different positions, we no longer have that restriction, but they are yet even more shorthanded.

it is a good thing bob likes to live dangerously. here we have an idiot that is afraid of flying or else he "would have visited all the continents already". yet on the other hand, he is willing to risk dying to the blind driver, moi. seems he didn't believe me when I said, "i lost my glasses, i can't see". so off we went, to the Q.

good thing i can use echolocation or some psychic powers to navigate. yeah right. some good-thing-we-didn't-die moves: i managed to cut through two lanes of bumper to bumper traffic and didn't get the finger or honked at once. went down 6 story spiral ramp with 8 inches to spare on either side at 30 mph. when i think back on it, it was simply about concentration & focus. not being able to see this world lets me focus on the more important matters at hand, our lives [:

After taking care of our separate problems at the Q, the sargeant mentioned they were bbq'ing upstairs. Free food, no need to ask us twice. We bolted right upstairs but it turns out to be the roof of the building. It was something civilians don't get to see often. The LIE to the tunnel to the giant citi corp building (how can you miss that?), we saw how everything came and blended together as one.  all the while, munching on our fresh off the grill burger with sauerkraut and onions. That made the rest of the day just fly by.
